TRANSLATION OF FORWARDED ACTION

The undersigned organizations and individuals publicly repudiate the pitiful stance adopted by the Legislative Assembly of the Santa Catarina State (LASCS), through its Requerimento no 402-01 mandating its delegates at the federal level to position themselves against the Civil Partnership bill introduced by former federal MuP Ms. Marta Suplicy. By affirming their "conviction that the only solution to homosexuality, bisexality and lesbianism is repentance and the abandonment of such practices", Santa Catarina representatives are violating the citizens' fundamental rights and the respect due to differences, sexual orientation among them. The Legislative power, as well as the Executive and the Judiciary, has the duty to guarantee the right to full citizenship, to diversity and to individual freedom. We can not allow any public organism such as the Legislative Assembly, and its representatives -who are kept in their places by taxes the population pays with the work it does- to hold such backwards positions, that implies to move several steps back in the right of people to live their sexual orientation without prejudice and discrimination. We invite all democratic sectors and those who fight for full social equality in this country to reject the position assumed by LASCS and to discuss ways to stop the Legislative and other public services and bodies to be utilized as sources of discrimination and prejudice.

MOÇÃO PÚBLICA DE REPÚDIO

As entidades e pessoas listadas abaixo vêm a público repudiar a lastimável posição da Assembléia Legislativa do Estado de Santa Catarina (ALESC), em seu Requerimento no 402-01, em que indica aos nossos representantes a nível federal que se posicionem contra o projeto de Parceria Civil da ex-deputada federal, Sra. Marta Suplicy. Ao afirmar que estão "convictos de que a única solução para o homossexualismo, bissexualismo e lesbialismo é o arrependimento e o abandono de tais práticas", os deputados de SC ferem frontalmente direitos fundamentais de cidadania e o respeito às diferenças, inclusive de orientação sexual. Ao contrário, ao Legislativo, assim como ao Executivo e ao Judiciário, cabe a tarefa de garantir os direitos à cidadania plena, à diversidade e às liberdades individuais. Não podemos permitir que um órgão público como a Assembléia Legislativa, assim como seus deputados, mantidos pelos impostos e pelo trabalho da população, aprove posição tão retrógrada, que significa muitos passos atrás no direito das pessoas de viverem sua orientação sexual sem preconceito e sem discriminação. Convidamos a todos os setores democráticos e que lutam pela plena igualdade social neste país a repudiar a posição da ALESC e a discutir formas de impedir que o Legislativo e os demais órgãos e serviços públicos sejam utilizados como fonte de discriminação e de preconceito.
