IGLHRC: Announcing Program Director Search

The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) is a U.S.-based non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to securing the full enjoyment of human rights for all people and communities subject to discrimination or abuse on the basis of sexual orientation or expression, gender expression or identity and HIV status. With offices in San Francisco, New York and Mexico City, IGLHRC advances its mission through global advocacy, documentation, coalition building, public education and technical assistance.

Job Description

The Program Director is responsible for the planning and implementation of all programmatic work of the organization, which includes the regional programs, policy advocacy and the asylum project. IGLHRC currently has regional programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific Islands, and Africa. The Program Director advises the Executive Director on all programmatic strategies, is part of the management team, supervises the program staff, and is a point person for policy advocacy in international and domestic bodies globally.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Guide program staff in developing strategic plans for programmatic work
  • Supervise, support and provide
  • oversight for program staff
  • Provide organizational leadership for advocacy and organizing strategies
  • Develop and sustain strategic relationships with non-governmental human rights organizations, regional foundation program officers, and other ally organizations
  • Develop and sustain relationships with policy makers in international and domestic governmental bodies globally
    Supervise research, writing and editing of all programmatic written materials, including country reports, asylum materials, advocacy and public education materials.
  • Represent the organization in public forums, including public hearings, governmental and non-governmental organization meetings, the media and public education venues.
  • Participate in the Management Team including participation in regular meetings, contributing to organizational development, coordinate preparation of monthly program reports, hiring and supervising program staff, and coordinating activities among departments.
  • Participate in all board and board program committee meetings.

Qualifications

  • Established record and success supervising programmatic work that includes advocacy, organizing and leading program planning
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in international human rights policy advocacy
  • Extensive knowledge of human rights norms and international structures
  • Experience working with diverse cultural, racial and political communities
  • Exceptional writing, research, public speaking and advocacy skills
    A team player who takes an interest in motivating and mentoring staff whom he/she is supervising
  • Knowledge of the issues and experiences faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender communities, including a sexual rights approach to these issues
  • A devotion to global economic and social justice
  • An ability to travel
