• February 28, 2008 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM “Sexuality, Gender, Human Rights and the Yogyakarta Principles,” organized by the Center for Women's Global Leadership and co-sponsored by Arc International, Human Rights Watch, and endorsed by IGLHRC, ICJ, ILGA, ISHR, and the New York LGBT Center.

• February 29, 2008 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM “Defending Women Defending Rights: Celebrating Women Human Rights Defenders,” organized by Center for Women's Global Leadership and co-sponsored by: AI, APWLD, Forum Asia, Front Line, IGLHRC, INFORM, ISHR, ISIS-WICCE, CLADEM, WLUML, OMCT, AWID, Baobab, Human Rights First, FIDH, MADRE, UAF, WIGJ (the groups comprising the WHRD campaign)

There is no need for accreditation to attend the NGO events. The Church Center, which hosts offices of various NGOs working at the United Nations, is located at 777 United Nations Plaza (at East 44th Street and 1st Avenue, across the street from the UN Secretariat Building).

The Commission on the Status of Women is a functional commission of ECOSOC (the UN Economic and Social Council), dedicated exclusively to gender equality and the advancement of women. It is the principal global policy-making body on these issues. Its annual meeting of member states' representatives in February/March in New York serves to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and the advancement of women worldwide.
